SD 1761–1798: Nearly two weeks into February and three weeks into [redacted]. Winter is wintering for real, almost, this year. By which I mean it has been cold a lot. It still never snows. Well. We get dustings. There was a 6–8″ storm yesterday that dumped… 1″? 2″? I could look that up but we don’t do that anymore.

January, as I said, was cold. And everyone is sick. “Best” COVID winter but worst cold & flu season in years it seems. I am finally at the tail end of some sort of respiratory thing. Scratchy throat then spent 3 days feeling feverish and now have been snotty and coughing for the last two weeks.

Anywho! A fun reminder every year is that I apparently started #msaed on January 2nd, which is hilarious.

15 years!!!! How!!! Why!!! I am definitely not posting daily but I have eked out a few posts, including my first two pixel portraits in a few years. Looking forward to doing some more.

Let’s see, despite the weather managed several playdates.

Officed in the office. Trains are filling up.

I’d wanted a wet January but it certainly could’ve been wetter. Though I did make some time for a shaken brown sugar espresso. Was it sweet? I guess so.

Made it to Alamo Drafthouse to see The Room Next Door which I thought was going to be a sad lesbian movie with Tilda Swinton and Julienne Moore but was just a sad dying of cancer movie instead.

Enjoyed many real life trips to Gaslight Coffee.

Got my very own Playdate. Learning Pulp has been fun but wondering if I should take it to the next level and learn Lua and get the actual SDK instead.

I made sure to make time for Brunch and have had a few trips to Tweet (Let’s Eat) which has been very good.

And after getting the Christmas decorations all put away, finally pulled out the miniatures from high school and all the new paints and supplies I bought last fall and setup a little work station behind my desk. I’m still doing a terrible job and haven’t really finished a single mini, but I am inching ever closer.

I also spent a lot of time playing Against the Storm with the new updates. Foundation left early access Jan 31 and I’ve sunk a ton of time there as well.

I am currently very frustrated with it however as I’m somewhat stuck with a near-game breaking bug where tax collectors can’t access mines. Civ VII also released. The new UI is very… not great. I was a bit stuck and not feeling it at first but it’s worked its hooks into me, so I can switch between it and Foundation and be frustrated with them both.

But when the horrors of bugs in videos (and the world) gets too much, there’s always Gaslight there for me.

I’ve also been doing some shifts around the edges of tophermcculloch.com and tophr.org. I don’t love where either are, but I have a hard time finishing personal things! Speaking of which there are some emails I should probably answer. But work is going reasonably well, so at least there is that. Love to internet. Even when my procrastination suggests otherwise.

Thoughts. Coherent. Organized. No. That’s not what this is.

Some other important notes. I also watched The Watchers and Kinds of Kindness. Both… not great! Kinds of Kindness was a bit of a disappointment since I like the director so much. The leads were great too, the three stories just didn’t really work for me. Challengers was good!

I finished All Tomorrow’s Parties, the conclusion of William Gibson’s Bridge Trilogy. Enjoyable read but feel like the big payoff it was working towards was bit underwhelming. Though it’s weird to read cyberpunk in this day and age because you can sometimes forget things that it accurately predicted didn’t actually exist at the time it was written. Like cybernetic dolphins for example.

Please know that I am very disappointed in myself every time an apostrophe is not curly. I know. I know.
