SD 1602–1634: I could have swore I wrote in August but apparently it was just my last minute post on July 31 that I snuck back into a day or two later to expand on meaning I officially missed August as it is now September 2. Alas. It is not like I was on a perfect streak as I missed an April post as well due to being very busy with work.
August was less busy than July in that I did not have any trips but work picked up again and I did a decent job of leaving the house which made it speed by.

It started with a work dinner outting at a great Greek place in Fulton Market. Then I went to see Rifftrax’s presentation of Point Break which was pretty fantastic. I am glad to have experienced the Keanu / Tank Girlness of it all with Rifftrax in tow for the first time.
One day at lunch I walked from the office to the bridge where the Dave Matthews Band bus incident occurred twenty years ago.

Kamala is brat and I am cute.

In the spirit of leaving the house I forced myself to go to brave the crowds and go to Market Days. After some initial panic with a crushing crowd and Alyssa Edwards sounding rough, I ended up getting into it and having a great time (though did hit a wall early the first night after being out in the sun all day drinking). Dragonette was fun. The Air and Water show was also happening (unfortunately) but made an interesting backdrop to the gayness of it all.

I kicked off the second day of Market Days by seeing the CatVideoFest at Music Box in what turned out to be the last day in their main theater before shutting down for renovations. RIP to those awful, awful seats. I then went back over to see Big Freedia who was fantastic, naturally. I also saw the Chicago Spirit Brigade which brought it on and a fun ABBA tribute band.

I also got to spend a lot of time with Barrett (whomst I do see regularly) and other old Tumblr friends Byl and Sam. Many things and stuff and stuff and things.

It was Anne and Renee’s annual block party, which Dane celebrated by cutting his hair short for the first time in many years. I really should have tried to get some photos of them. Oops.

I saw Rachel Bloom’s one woman show Death, Let Me Do My show with friends, which was pretty fantastic and moving. They took pictures but I do not have copies so there is no proof it ever happened. Afterwards we had fancy sushi for dinner and I realized midway through we were on the former site of Manhandler. Ah, memories.

The Democratic National Convention came back to Chicago and the city did not burn down. Or did not it??? Construction on the two apartment towers next door is also well underway with some fun 3am deliveries of bricks to keep my Monday mornings spicy.

Also this didn’t happen.

At some point this happened.

Some friends moved back from Seattle after being away for several years. I also do not have photos of them but I am glad for them to be back. We met up at Logan Arcade for the monthly Bo-Deadly Horror Movie night and saw an important piece of queer cinema: Stripped to Kill. Wild. Annnd problematic. But wild.
We had a fun team outing at work taking a pedal boat up and down the Chicago river. My team ended up on the bow of the boat and did not have to pedal. Winning!!!

And I also rode my bike a few times. This has been… August.

Oh I also saw Alien Romulus and it was v scary and nerve wracking. 8/10 would recommend.
