So, there I was, balls deep in graphic design students…

Heh. My first class today was at 12:30, but I woke up at 8 to attend an art lecture at 10. I never woke up two hours before high school, so why I do it now totally evades me. Maybe because I’m still waking up later than you high school fucks! Ahahaha. Sorry.

Luckily I fell back to sleep for a half an hour or so and then got up, showered, dressed, and went online. You know, the normal morning routine. Talked to people for awhile, decided it was time to walk to the Tweed Museum, sat for a little, saw Mike walk riiiight past me… yeah. He’s observant. So sat next to him and watched Sangbum Kim talk us through his website (whose addy I forget, but checkout http://www.bananamilk.com/ too!) A lot of fun graphic design type stuff. It might be a neat career field, but then, there are the naysayers… In the Q & A part someone was talking about artistic integrity and working as a tool for the bureacrats and.. he seemed to really hate graphic designers. Like he was some elitist fine arts fuck. Heh. Oh, and I saw one person with an AFI shirt, thus making it an okay day (I’m basing the quality of my day off of number of AFI shirts now… :D).

Went to lunch with Mike after being stopped by Maria. She totally wanted us to make cookies which I was totally up for, but someone felt ill. Eh, whatever. Then it was time for Rhetoric of Pop Culture where we didn’t accomplish much, but it was still fun. Observing different poems, ads, and photographs to see different meanings (“Is he waltzing with papa or getting the shit kicked out of him?”). Ooh, and we looked at this photograph deciding what it meant and talking about the little girl: sallyman-candycigaretteIt’s a candy cigarette. The photographer is Sally Mann, rather controversial for photographing her children in almost pornographic and exploitative poses. So… that was cool. And the textbook for that class brough me the Van Gogh thingy.

After that it was 2D Design were I’m getting to know a kid I met at Registration/Orientation whom I thought was the world’s biggest asshole. He really likes the videogame Knights of the Old Republic… and apparently he’s not so bad, even if his name is “Bud”. Our first projects are designs done on 3×5 notecards and inked/colored in. It’s… kinda repetitive but I don’t mind. The first two of eight are here:

2d-1a

2d-1b

I spent more time on the first and like it better. My next ones have leaves… whee!

After that I went to a senior art opening with Bud. There were refreshments and neat projects done by graphic design students at UMD. If I stay in the program, I’ll get my own exhibit at the Tweed senior year! That’s reason enough. “I’m a fame seeker!” Hehe. The stuff further inspired me that graphic design is pretty cool.

Hmm. Went to dinner with Mike eventually and then we were gonna go to a Fluxus discussion panel, but got there too early. Fluxus is experimental / performance art… or John Lennon’s naked body wrapped around Yoko Ono. You know, whichever! Heh… no cookies. Around… 8? I have no idea, Mike came to my room to discuss trickle down economics. We walked around.

I’m being called “Christopher”, discussing politics, AD&D, and I might start playing Magic again… College is fucking weird. I also feel guilty for typing on my computer while the roommate is in bed…

Oh, and I have athelete’s foot! Wheeeeeeeooo! Much love to everyone!

(I’m such a groupie. Cat Face Smash Records is too damn hardcore for my brain to handle.)

Ooh! I’ve got lotsa letters and postcards to write! And CDs to mail! Erm… No.
