Davey and Jade are straight-edge (sXe), which means they do not consume drugs or alcohol; nor do they have promiscuous sex. Davey has said he has adopted this lifestyle because he saw what harm drugs did to his friends in high school. All four members of AFI are vegan, meaning they do not consume products that come from animals. Cheeseburgers are absolutely out, for example: cheese (which comes from animal dairy) and meat (which comes from animals) are both against the vegan lifestyle. Many vegan foods exist, though, such as vegan brownies; AFI enjoys these foods. Jade has been quoted saying the reason he is vegan is because he hates plants.

Hehe… Mike and I are gonna start an AFI cleansing squad. First I'll disable them with my acerbic wit, and then he'll disable them with a shotgun blast to the head.
